Too much of a Good Thing is . . . Bad

Cholesterol, in and of itself, is not inherently bad. In fact, the cholesterol our bodies produce naturally creates cell membranes and plays an important role in the structure of some hormones. Problems emerge, however, when the body has too much cholesterol.

How do we end up with excess cholesterol? Some individuals have a genetic predisposition that spurs their bodies to over produce. However, poor dietary habits are the true culprit for most people.

The American Heart Association recommends a diet containing less than 30 percent of its total calories from fat. In addition to monitoring your diet, daily aerobic exercise helps by forcing the heart to work more efficiently. Daily workouts also stave off diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure–all major risk factors for heart disease.

In addition to providing you with a complete physical exam, your doctor of chiropractic can teach you a number of ways to lower your cholesterol naturally.

To find out more about the effects of diet and exercise on cholesterol, call Dr. Sam Smith, a prevention specialist and chiropractor, at his office at (555) 555-1234 or check out www.samsmithdc.com today.
